Class Lessons in Latvian

 

In May, for the first time, all 19 class les- sons were held in Latvian in Latvia The cycle took three years to complete (2008 to 2011). During this time the class holders spent much time at translating and then the translated texts were read in Latvian. The class holders were appointed by the Executive Council at the Goetheanum.

Until the Second World War there had been a First Class of the School of Spiritual Science in Latvia. Following the rebirth of the free nation of Latvia, Klaus Doenges began to work on it again. In 1992 he took the class texts, which he had received from Manfred Schmidt-Brabant, to Latvia. The first class lesson was held as a free rendering in German and in a free translation in Latvian.

 

Sergei Prokofieff also made a great contribution to the class work. He trans- lated the mantras into Russian and sent them to Latvia. One of the oldest anthroposophists, Dina Zolotinskaja, was en- trusted with reading the mantras. Finally, Hans Hasler helped during the final stages of the class lessons. In 2005, Klaus Doenges approached the Executive Council at the Goetheanum with the request to install a Latvian class holder. This happened in 2008. Now there are three Lat- vian and a Russian class holder. Hitherto the class lessons have only been read in Latvian, but in future they will also be held as free renderings.
