Always Informed
In April the first anthroposophical family medical practice in Riga was opened in Medical Center 4. This became possible through contacts made between the two doctors (Mara Meijere and Gita Gange), as well as by networking with officials in the medical community. The opening of the anthroposophical family medical practice represents a great success. The practice not only builds a bridge between anthroposophical medicine and academic medicine—it also means acceptance by “official” medicine.
This practice arose thanks to Dr. Gita Gange and Dr. Mara Meijere. They have been actively publicizing anthroposophical medicine and its many approaches to treatment. For instance, they both give interviews on television, in journals and newspapers, and they continually work to inform the public about treatment possibilities in anthroposophical medicine.
A First Step
Gange has also published several articles in journals—for instance, on anthroposophical medicine’s approach to malignant tumors. She has given a lecture at the Western Esoteric School, and she continues to remind leading physicians like Peteris Apinis (the head of the medical society) that anthroposophical medicine must be available to the public and that it must be established and recognized as a medical approach. In this way, Gange has made it possible for representatives of modern medicine to understand that anthroposophical medicine is not just an “alternative,” but an equally valid branch of medicine.
Even though the opening of this family medical practice is just a beginning, it represents an important further step for the life of anthroposophical medicine in Latvia—it is located in Medical Center 4, which is the leading medical center in Latvia, and one that offers an excellent course of medical treatment.
